Product Overview

Lightest in the Ghost range. Built for the climb, composed in the crosswind, ready for the roads where gradient and gust decide the day.

The Toccay AERO-40 Ghost is the shallowest and lightest wheelset in Toccay's Ghost lineup—a 40mm carbon rim paired with a T1100 + T800 carbon platform and a choice of carbon or steel spokes. It is the wheel for riders whose roads roll up as often as they roll out: climbers, lighter all-rounders, and anyone who has ever been pushed across the road by a gust on a 50mm or 60mm front wheel and decided enough was enough.

At 1,100g for the pair in the carbon-spoke build, the AERO-40 is the lightest Toccay road wheelset available. It is not a shallow, noodly climbing wheel that gives away speed on the flat—the 40mm depth retains a usable aerodynamic advantage, while the 25mm internal width and 36T ratchet hub keep it modern, versatile, and ready for real-world road tyres. It is available in two distinct versions: a carbon-spoke build for maximum climbing response and minimum rotating mass, and a steel-spoke build using Sapim CX-Ray aero spokes for easier servicing and a lower entry price.

Key Features

🏆 Lightest Ghost Wheelset – 1,100g

  • 1,100g pair weight (carbon-spoke version)—the lightest road wheelset in the Ghost range

  • The steel-spoke version comes in around 1,200g, with real-world reports as low as 1,161g without rim tape

  • Low rotating mass makes itself known when the road tilts up or the pace surges

📐 40mm Depth – Climbing Focus, Crosswind Composure

  • 40mm rim depth is Toccay's recommended choice for climbing, crosswind-exposed roads, and lighter all-round riding

  • Shallow enough to stay predictable in gusty conditions where deeper Ghost models demand more attention

  • Deep enough to retain an aerodynamic edge over a box-section climbing rim

🛞 Modern Wide-Rim Platform

  • 25mm internal / 32–33mm external width—supports current road tyre setups and allows lower pressures for comfort and grip

  • Recommended tyre width: 28–50mm—versatile enough for road race rubber or wider endurance and light-gravel setups

  • Tubeless-ready with a clincher-compatible rim bed

⚡ Choose Your Spoke: Carbon or Steel

Carbon Spoke Steel Spoke

Carbon spokes shed rotational mass and sharpen acceleration—the defining trait of the AERO-40. Steel spokes use Sapim CX-Ray aero blades for proven durability and straightforward serviceability, with a ride quality that remains composed and efficient.

🔧 Precision 36T Ratchet Hub

  • 36-tooth ratchet engagement with opposing toothed faces that engage across multiple teeth for immediate power transfer

  • Sealed bearings for low drag and long service life

  • Serviceable layout—practical access for routine maintenance, not a sealed black box

  • Freehub options: Shimano HG or SRAM XDR

AERO-40 vs AERO-50 vs AERO-60: Which Ghost Is Right for You?

AERO-40 Ghost AERO-50 Ghost AERO-60 Ghost
Rim Depth 40mm 50mm 60mm
Pair Weight (Carbon Spoke) 1,100g 1,150g 1,240g
Best For Climbing, crosswinds, lighter all-round Balanced all-round speed Flat, rolling, maximum aero
Crosswind Behaviour Most composed Balanced Demands attention in gusts

Choose the AERO-40 if your rides are defined by gradient, gusty conditions, or you simply want the lightest possible Ghost build. Choose the AERO-50 for a balanced all-rounder. Choose the AERO-60 if flat-road speed and aerodynamic efficiency are your primary priorities.

What Riders Are Saying

“拓凯幽灵B2 40框高… 轮组真的敲轻,40轮组仅1186g… 靠谱的厂商敲重要(质量 售后好)。” — Xiaohongshu Rider
(Translation: “Toccay Ghost B2 40mm… the wheelset is seriously light—the 40mm wheelset is just 1186g… having a reliable manufacturer matters (quality and after-sales are good).”)

“Weight came in at 1161 grams without rim tape. This weight was achieved using steel spokes. Very impressive.” — Verified Steel-Spoke Owner
(A real-world steel-spoke weight that undercuts the listed figure.)

“Stiff and responsive under power, especially when climbing out of the saddle.” — Review Consensus on the Ghost Platform
(The AERO-40 inherits the Ghost family’s direct, stiff character—now with less rotating mass to accelerate.)

“Stable in crosswinds for a deep-section wheel (though some twitchiness in extreme gusts).” — Review Consensus
(The 40mm depth is the most crosswind-composed Ghost, but no deep-section wheel is immune to strong, sudden gusts.)

Who It’s For

The AERO-40 Ghost makes the most sense for a rider who:

  • Climbs often and wants the lightest possible rotating mass without dropping to a shallow, aero-compromised rim

  • Rides in crosswind-exposed terrain and wants a deeper-than-climbing-wheel profile that stays predictable in gusts

  • Wants a lighter all-round wheelset for rolling roads, longer days, and mixed-gradient routes

  • Values the option of a serviceable steel-spoke build at a lower price, or a carbon-spoke build for maximum response

It is a less natural fit for riders who prioritize flat-road, high-speed aerodynamics above all else—the AERO-50 or AERO-60 will serve those courses better.

What's in the Box

  • Toccay AERO-40 Ghost Wheelset × 1 pair (Front + Rear, spoke version as selected)

  • Tubeless valves

  • Rim tape (pre-installed on carbon-spoke version; confirm tape requirements for steel-spoke version)

  • Documentation and warranty card

Tyres, rotors, and cassettes sold separately.

Note: Some independent reviewers have noted that spare spokes, rim tape, or nipples may not be included in every box. If you want spares on hand, contact Toccay support—they offer spare parts and setup help.

Technical Notes

⚠️ Spoke Version: Carbon-spoke and steel-spoke builds are separate products with different weights, ride characteristics, and prices. Confirm your selection at checkout—they are not interchangeable after purchase.

⚠️ Freehub: Choose Shimano HG or SRAM XDR at checkout. The freehub is not interchangeable after installation without purchasing a separate driver body.

⚠️ Tyre Compatibility: Optimised for 28–50mm tyres. The wide 25mm internal rim supports lower pressures for comfort and grip on varied road surfaces.

⚠️ Crosswind Behaviour: The 40mm depth is the most composed Ghost in gusty conditions, but it is still a carbon aero wheel. Sudden, extreme gusts will register—this is the inherent trade-off of any deeper-than-box-section rim, not a defect.

⚠️ Weight Variance: Listed weights are 1,100g (carbon spoke) and ~1,200g (steel spoke) . Real-world samples have weighed as low as 1,161g without rim tape (steel spoke) . Minor variance is normal across production samples and measurement methods.

⚠️ Warranty: 3-year limited warranty plus one-time crash replacement for eligible structural damage. Review Toccay's published terms before purchase.

⚠️ Torque: Always use a torque wrench when installing rotors and cassette. Follow hub manufacturer specifications for Center Lock lockring torque.
